AN APPEAL

Om Namaha Shivaaya
Mahathobhara
Shree Vishweshwara Temple
Yelluru Post, Yelluru ( Udupi Taluk & District)
Karnataka. Ph.: 0820 2550365

Respected Devotees,

Mahathobhara Yelluru Shree Vishweshwara Temple is known from time immemorial the divine place of Swayambhu Saannidhya. Devotees here pay their respect to the Lord Vishweshwara by offering tender coconut Abhishekham, lit oil lamps and gold coins (pawan). It is believed that the Lord will grant all their prayers. The story goes that the Lord Ullaya got pleased with the penance observed by a devotee who belonged to the Kunda Hegde family and as result he descended from Kashi to Yelluru.
The temple that belongs to the Maagane that comprises Nandikooru (Adve, Ulluru, Kolachuru), Kalathuru, Kutyaru, Padooru, Belapu and Kunjoor, has a rich and divine history of over one thousand years. The architecture of the temple is unique and considered a classic one in the view of the Tantragama experts. The Sanctum Sanctorum and the related structures of the temple are now in a completely dilapidated condition and urgent renovation has become imminent.
The renowned temple architects of this part of the Coastal District have considered the age-old temple as the perfect and unique model of the Devaayathana style of architecture.

It is now decided to renovate to renovate the temple in the similar style and model. In the General Body Meeting of the region, the entire community of the devotees of the Six Maagane sought the divine permission for renovation of the temple by offering Mushti Kaanike in the divine presence of Shri Sugunendra Thirta Swamijee of Puttige Mutt, Udupi. After holding the mass prayer, the Renovation committee was formed and announced.

Now the plan is drawn to renovate the Sanctum Sanctorum, Thirtha Mantap, Sutthu Pauli, Kitchen Hall, Dining Hall, Auditorium, Brahmara Gudi, Veera Bhadra Sannidhana, etc., at an estimated cost of Rs.Five Crores. It is the firm decision of the devotees, representatives and of the renovation committee members that no un-artistic structure shall be built and there shall be no deviation from the traditional style of temple architecture.
With the help and guidance of the elders, scholars, learned people and the people who love the culture of the soil, the reconstruction work will be taken up. Hence this appeal to the entire philanthropist and the general public to generously contribute to the divine cause and be showered upon choicest blessings of the Lord Vishweshwara.

Lord Vishweshwara, believed to have descended from Kashi, is referred to at least in 12 rock editcs and recorded by the Kaifiyaths. The Lord was said to have been identified by an old woman of the tribal community and manifested as the truth of the soil and as a result of severe penance by a devotee. Now a golden opportunity has been bestowed upon us to magnificently construct the temple of the Ullaya. Let us join together to realize the divine dream come true and become worthy of the choicest blessings of the Lord Vishweshwara by offering our Seva to Him.
